Hey everyone, my name is Gary, and today I'm breaking down the output settings in FreeShow presentation software—Gary style. If you're looking for a straightforward, hands-on guide to understanding how to optimize your output settings, you're in the right place. And if you want to see everything in action, be sure to check out my YouTube video where I walk you through it step by step.
Getting Started with FreeShow Output Settings
The first thing you’ll want to do is access the settings page. To do that, click on the cogwheel icon. This will open up the settings menu where you’ll find the Outputs tab—our main focus today.
Enabling Outputs & Using Styles
To start, you need to enable your outputs. This simply activates them, allowing FreeShow to display your content. Then there’s the** Styles** option, which lets you apply a preset style to your outputs. This determines how your presentations, scriptures, songs, or whatever you’re displaying will look. You can choose from any default styles or create your own.
Understanding the Window Settings
Under the Window section, you’ll find:
Output Screen: This defines which physical screen your presentation will appear on. If you have multiple monitors, you can select the one you want.
Always on Top: This keeps your output window above all other windows, preventing anything from accidentally overlapping your presentation.
Kiosk Mode: This takes "Always on Top" to another level, making FreeShow the only thing visible on your computer. If you’re running a dedicated setup for presentations, this ensures no other apps or windows interfere.
Diving into NDI Settings
NDI (Network Device Interface) is a powerful feature for live streaming setups. Here’s what you need to know:
Enable NDI: Turns on the NDI signal so you can send your output to other software like OBS.
Frame Rate Options: You can choose from 24, 30, or 60 frames per second, depending on your needs.
Transparent Background: This setting removes any unused space in your presentation, allowing overlays on video footage or other content.
Invisible Window: Allows you to create an output without assigning it to an actual screen. This is for if you plan to purely use it as a virtual NDI screen.
Managing Multiple Outputs
At the bottom of the Outputs section, you’ll see all your active outputs. You can add a new one by clicking Add, which lets you choose between a Normal Output or a Stage Output. I’ve set up three outputs:
Lower Thirds Output (NDI-enabled, transparent background, sent to OBS)
Main Presentation Output (Standard presentation view)
Stage Output (Designed for confidence monitors with next slide previews and timers)
You can add as many outputs as needed, and they’ll all appear in the preview window on the top right.
